![]() An interaction with my daughter prompted a lightbulb moment for me. After close to 3 hours of homework (which is abnormal for my 10 year old), I told Lilly to stop doing homework and explained that it would be alright if she got an "RDR" (recess detention room). She was baffled by my statement and insisted that she stay up late to complete her assignments. I then conveyed to Lilly how the exhaustion wasn't worth the cost to her well-being. LIGHTBULB! I just suffered a 3 day migraine prompted by the lack of sleep--all for juggling life's demands. Lesson: sometimes the price of excellence isn't worth the cost to self-care. As I cuddled my daughter as she went to bed that night, attempting to speak words of comfort, I realized those words were for me. Has juggling life's demands cost you your ability to care for yourself?
